Silverlake in the community

Silverlake was established in 1946 and to this day remains under the management of Allen Prebble, son of the founder, Norman Prebble.

The company is one of the UK’s leading vehicle recycling specialists, offering a wide range of services from vehicle recovery, daily breakers and auctions, salvage, and recycled car parts through to the full environmentally friendly recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles at this Authorised Treatment Facility.

The company has expanded significantly in recent years with investment at the main site in Shedfield, Hampshire, the launch of Silverlake.co.uk online store, self-service autoparts facility - U-Pick-It and a scheme to support charitable causes - U-Donate-A-Car.

Silverlake: past and present

Existing community relationships

Silverlake has a proud record of working with the community and local colleges including Eastleigh College and CEMAST (Fareham) College, where it has run training programmes, provided free vehicles for training courses, offered shadowing opportunities, and attended careers fairs.

Future aspirations

Alongside the creation of 60 new full-time jobs, the proposed expansion of the site provides an opportunity for Silverlake to increase its community support and sponsorship programmes even further.

Possibilities include further collaboration between Silverlake and local schools, colleges, local businesses and Hampshire County Council.

A site expansion would also provide the opportunity to introduce onsite education facilities including:

Classes on recycling and sustainability upskilling

Training facilities to provide skills and qualifications development for current and future workers

Offices and laboratories dedicated to future recycling research

Enabling further research, development and implementation into the dismantling of end-of-life electrical vehicles.
